What on Earth Can I Eat? Now out as an eBook!

When I reached my '50s I mistakenly thought that my learning years were long behind me.

How mistaken I was. My double diagnosis in 2002 led to a whole new world where I was a naïve ignorant student learning about a host of mysterious things neglected from my education in my various earlier stages of life. Things like carbohydrates, insulin, blood glucose, lymphocytes and all that.

Some of those subjects were vital to my continued health. In many of those fields I will be a student for the rest of my life.

Other things I had to learn were less directly important but still necessary to assist my search for knowledge; thus I became net-savvy and learned how to use the web and usenet to get the information I needed. Later, further learning was needed to allow me to find ways to pass on to others the knowledge I had gained. As a consequence I spent a lot of time in 2010 researching self-publishing;. That led to me eventually publishing What on Earth Can I Eat? late last year.

Originally that was going to be the only form of the book, but after publication I received many requests from people to produce an ebook. That involved another learning curve, as I tried to re-work the manuscript for the various e-reading options. I floundered around until I was directed to Smashwords. That made it so much easier.

So now, responding to popular demand, the ebook is out there on the web!

I have to admit I'm still an old fogey and tend to prefer printed books, but for those modern people who prefer to download and read on their Kindle (or any other ebook reader) please click here: What on Earth Can I Eat? Food, Type 2 Diabetes and You. As a service to my blog readers, a $1.00 discount is available if you  include coupon number JP52U when you get to the checkout.

Greetings from Ireland,

I was diagnosed 2 years ago with Diabetes & Diabetic Neuropathy in both feet. Most Diabetics have to wait 20 years to get Diabetic Neuropathy, but I got mine the first week. My blood sugar levels had soared to coma level - 80 (European). Normal blood sugar level is 5.8. I was over weight, consuming too much sugar, sodas, coke etc. I cut out all the crap, bought a Rebounder & do 30 minutes exercise on it every morning. I then have 50ml of Apple Cider Vinegar in a glass of water. I have 2 hard boiled eggs & 30 minutes I have a mug of freshly ground coffee. I eat Pistachios nuts during the day. I have one main meal about 4am-5pm. I eat 4 lamb chops & a few spuds with a bottle of wine. For dessert I have a bar of 81% Dark Chocolate.

I was put on 80 units of injected insulin. I have reduced it to zero. My blood sugar is between 5.8 and 6.7.

I intend to stop taking all drugs for hypertension and also Aspirin. I am 61 years of age & am a great fan of Dr Joe Mercola's website. There is great information on his website.

I take 10,000 ui of Vitamin D daily instead of taking flu vacine. I also take all the other Vitamins in lower doses. I try & drink 2 liters of water daily with Vitamin C added.
It seems I will have to live with the Neuropathy, so I oil & cream my feet often.

I would encourage ANYONE to purchase a Rebounder. Its a powerful way to exercise & with music (Creedance Clear Water Revival) it makes it very enjoyable.

"My blood sugar levels had soared to coma level - 80 (European)". For non-european readers that is an A1c of 9.5%.

Leonardo, I share your enthusiasm for CCR and for using diet and exercise before adding excessive medications or to reduce the need for them.

Unfortunately, as a diabetic I don't share your enthusiasm for Mercola and as an atheist I don't share your enthusiasm for religion; but we can agree to differ on those points.

Congratulations on your success.

Cheers, Alan

Cheers Alan,

Regarding Joe Mercola, what do you find wrong with his advice?

Regarding Jesus of Nazareth, what do you find wrong with His teachings?

Alan,

I wondered how you knew that I was a Christian; then the "light-bulb" came on. You thought Creedance Clear Water Revival was some "Gospel group". You should Google their name & then feel the blood come to your cheeks. Ha, ha, ha.

Actually, I have been a CCR fan for as long as I can remember. I'm 64 years old; they are from my early years.

I learned about your other interests by going to your own bio and your blog. I'll consider my answers to your later questions for a few moments before I respond.

Cheers, Alan

"Regarding Joe Mercola, what do you find wrong with his advice?"

A few years back I took the time to wander through his site; some things I agreed with, too many I didn't. I tried to do that again just now and found I could not go into any depth without subscribing. I am not prepared to do that. However, squinting through the overbearing commercialism I can still see the push to sell probiotics and the flim-flam on nutritional body types. If he helped you, great. But he's not some-one I am prepared to endorse.

On your second question, this is a diabetes blog, not a religious one like your own. If I decide to engage in a theological discussion I'll do it over on your blog, but it is not likely to occur. I am happy for you to have a faith you believe in, I just do not happen to share your faith. I'll leave it there.

Cheers, Alan
